The Meridian connection

Meridian 59 was purchased by the company another M59 developer and I started, Near Death Studios, Inc. We bought the full rights to the game from 3DO and have relaunched the game earlier this year.
Meridian 59 is an online RPG, very much like Ultima Online or EverQuest. The servers are a bit smaller, resulting in a much tighter community. M59 was originally released in 1996 making it one of the first commercially available online RPGs available in retail stores.
The company that made Meridian 59, Archetype Interactive, was purchased by 3DO about the same time New World Computing was. The goal was to combine Meridian 59's online technology with the Might & Magic world, resulting in Might & Magic Online. As you can probably guess, that idea was scrapped.
We don't offer a free trial currently, but if you are interested in the game, you can find more information at the link below. Unfortunately, the client that comes on the disc won't work with the new version.
MM7 is probably my favorite of the series. The producer for MM7 was a big M59 fan, and some of the caves in the game are actually taken from M59's maps! I forget exactly where they are located, but the caves are full of Behemoths. I remember ducking down into some familiar dead-ends in order to rest up after fighting some of them.
Anyway, I thought I'd share a bit of information. Glad to see people still enjoying classic RPGs like MM7. I should dig out my CDs and go through the game again.
